Lenovo IdeaPad Vibe Laptop Challenges MacBook Neo at $699
Lenovo unveiled the IdeaPad Vibe, a new laptop designed to compete with Apple's MacBook Neo. Starting at $699, it offers OLED displays and multiple processor options.

Lenovo has officially entered the competitive laptop market with its new IdeaPad Vibe, a device engineered to challenge Apple's popular MacBook Neo. Unveiled at Lenovo Innovation World, the IdeaPad Vibe boasts a striking design and impressive specifications, aiming to capture users seeking an affordable yet feature-rich alternative. The laptop will be available with either a 14-inch or 15-inch OLED display and maintains a slim profile at just 14.9mm thick, with a starting weight of 2.87lbs. While slightly larger than its Apple counterpart, the weight difference is minimal, offering a comparable portability experience. Lenovo plans to offer the Vibe in both plastic and metal finishes, further enhancing its premium feel.
A significant design highlight is Lenovo's collaboration with Pantone, resulting in seven distinct color options designed to appeal to a wide range of tastes. These include the serene 'Dreamy Violet,' the energetic 'Spicy Gold,' the balanced 'Zen Green,' the crisp 'Chill Blue,' the optimistic 'Radiant Coral,' the sophisticated 'Moody Blue,' and the stable 'Lowkey Grey.' Complementing these vibrant hues, the IdeaPad Vibe features interchangeable keyboard keycaps, allowing users to personalize their device with fun color combinations.
Connectivity and Performance Options
Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the Lenovo IdeaPad Vibe is equipped with robust connectivity options and powerful internal components. Users will find a versatile selection of ports, including two USB-A ports, one HDMI port, two USB-C ports, a headphone jack, and a microSD card reader. For enhanced user experience, it includes a 5MP webcam with a physical privacy cover, and an optional keyboard backlight is available. The 15-inch model will also feature an optional touchscreen.
Under the hood, the IdeaPad Vibe offers flexibility with processor choices. Consumers can opt for configurations featuring an AMD Ryzen AI 400 chip or a Qualcomm Snapdragon X chip. The AMD model supports user-upgradable RAM up to 32GB and dual storage slots for configurations up to 1TB, also user-upgradable. The Snapdragon version supports up to 24GB of RAM, which is not user-upgradable, though the storage remains configurable. Lenovo also indicated that an Intel-based version is planned for future release. Both the AMD and Snapdragon models are slated to launch in October and November, respectively, with a competitive starting price of $699.99, directly matching the MacBook Neo's current market position following Apple's recent adjustments.
This launch positions Lenovo as a significant contender in the premium ultrabook segment, directly challenging established players like Apple. The emphasis on customizable aesthetics, combined with competitive pricing and versatile performance options, signals a strategic move by Lenovo to capture a broader consumer base. The inclusion of user-upgradable components on the AMD model, in particular, addresses a common consumer pain point regarding longevity and personalization. Furthermore, the introduction of the IdeaCentre AIO I, an all-in-one desktop computer with similar design elements and pricing starting at $939, suggests a coordinated product strategy across Lenovo's computing lines for the fall season.
