Pontoon Boats Get Apple CarPlay for Advanced Navigation

MasterCraft Boat Holdings is set to integrate Apple CarPlay into its Crest and Balise pontoon boat lines, beginning with the 2027 model year. This move brings advanced, familiar infotainment and navigation features, typically found in automobiles, to marine vessels. The company is collaborating with marine navigation app developer Savvy Navvy to enhance the boating experience.

Boaters purchasing select 2027 Crest or Balise pontoons will gain access to CarPlay functionalities. A key component of this integration is the Savvy Navvy mobile app, which will interface directly with CarPlay. This will allow users to view detailed nautical charts, GPS tracking, intelligent routing suggestions, and real-time weather forecasts seamlessly alongside other CarPlay applications.

Unlike Apple Maps' built-in CarPlay integration, which is primarily designed for road use, Savvy Navvy will offer dedicated water navigation features. This distinction is crucial for safe and efficient boating. "Boaters have been asking for a modern infotainment system for years," said Jelte Liebrand, Founder and CEO of Savvy Navvy. "Plan your trip on the couch, step aboard, and it is already at the helm. No complicated ways to synchronise things; it just works."

Enhanced Boating Experience with Marine-Specific Tech

The Savvy Navvy application for CarPlay is designed to work universally with both iOS and Android devices, compatible with any display that supports CarPlay. "I'm thrilled to see Crest and Balise put CarPlay in front of their boaters," Liebrand added. This widespread compatibility ensures that a broad range of users can benefit from the technology.

Starting with the 2027 models, Apple CarPlay, powered by Savvy Navvy, will be a standard feature across all new Balise and Crest Conquest and Caribbean models. A limited subscription to Savvy Navvy Premium will also be included, offering enhanced features for a trial period. The Savvy Navvy app itself is now available for CarPlay globally and functions with any compatible marine head unit or display, including aftermarket installations.

This partnership signals a significant trend in the marine industry towards adopting automotive-grade technology to improve user interfaces and navigation. For decades, boat control systems have lagged behind automotive technology, often relying on separate, less integrated GPS units and analog gauges.
