Oura officially launched its fifth-generation smart ring, the Oura Ring 5, on May 29, 2026. This latest iteration boasts a dramatically reduced profile, being 40% smaller than its predecessor, and integrates advanced health monitoring features such as blood pressure trend detection and detailed nighttime breathing analysis. The company also introduced tools to assist users tracking GLP-1 medications, marking a significant expansion in its wearable health technology.
The new ring measures a mere 6.09mm in width and 2.29mm in thickness, a stark contrast to the previous model's 7.99mm width and 2.88mm thickness. Oura attributes this miniaturization to a comprehensive redesign of its internal architecture, encompassing mechanical, electrical, optical, battery, and sensing components. The company aims for the new form factor to more closely resemble a traditional wedding band, enhancing wearability and aesthetic appeal. Despite the substantial reduction in size, Oura asserts that the battery life remains robust, offering approximately one week of use on a single charge.
Significant upgrades have been made to the ring's sensing system. A newly engineered signal architecture utilizes precision-crafted sensor domes to ensure better skin contact, complemented by more powerful LEDs. Twelve distinct signal pathways work in concert, which Oura claims will lead to superior accuracy across a wider range of finger types and skin tones. This enhanced sensing capability underpins the headline software addition: "Health Radar." This proactive health-monitoring feature builds upon the foundation of the company's 2024-launched Symptom Radar tool, which was designed to identify early indicators of illness.
New Health Radar Features Offer Deeper Personal Insights
Health Radar debuts with two primary functions: Blood Pressure Signals and Nighttime Breathing. Blood Pressure Signals continuously observe patterns that could indicate cardiovascular strain, specifically surfacing trends in nighttime blood pressure. The Nighttime Breathing feature offers a 30-day rolling overview of sleep-related breathing disturbances, providing users with guidance on when to consult a healthcare professional. These features aim to empower users with more actionable data regarding their cardiovascular and respiratory well-being.
For U.S. users, a new Health Records feature facilitates the direct import of diagnosed medical conditions, current medications, laboratory results, and allergy information into the Oura app. This integration aims to create a more holistic view of a user's health profile within the platform. In a move to bridge the gap between wearable data and professional medical advice, Oura has partnered with Counsel Health, an AI-driven virtual care provider. This collaboration allows eligible users in 43 U.S. states to submit health inquiries and connect with licensed physicians directly through the app, albeit for an additional fee.
The Oura Ring 5 also introduces specialized tools for individuals managing their health with GLP-1 medications. The new GLP-1 Insights tools consolidate medication dosing schedules, observed side effects, weight fluctuations, and other biometric data into a single, manageable interface. Furthermore, a Lab Uploads feature allows users to integrate results from blood biomarker tests alongside their Oura-generated biometric data, providing a more comprehensive dataset for analysis.
Beyond these core health features, the Oura Ring 5 incorporates several other enhancements. Live workout tracking offers real-time metrics for pace, distance, and heart rate when paired with a connected device. The company is also supporting a Brain Health Study via Oura Labs, which will correlate cognitive assessments with collected biometric data. A new Data Deletion tool provides users with granular control, allowing them to erase data from specific time periods without compromising their entire historical record. For those concerned about misplacing their device, a new Locate feature has been added to track both the rings and their charging cases.
An optional new accessory, the Charging Case, is available for $99. It provides up to one month of battery life and supports wireless charging.
