Tupac Shakur Featured in Sega's 'Stranger Than Heaven' Game
Sega has announced that the late rapper Tupac Shakur will be a playable character in its upcoming game, "Stranger Than Heaven." The announcement was made at Summer Game Fest 2026, with his estate's approval.

SEGA of America and RGG Studio revealed on June 5, 2026, during the Summer Game Fest 2026 live event that iconic rapper and actor Tupac Shakur will be among the new cast additions for their anticipated action-adventure game, Stranger Than Heaven™. Also joining the lineup are veteran actors Takashi Ukaji, Yasukaze Motomiya, Takaya Kuroda, and Kohei Tsuji. The game is slated for a worldwide release on January 15, 2027. A trailer showcasing Tupac and the new cast members was unveiled, accompanied by the official release date confirmation from RGG Studio Head Masayoshi Yokoyama.
Following the trailer debut, Snoop Dogg, who lends his voice to a character in the game and is a long-time associate of Tupac, joined Yokoyama on stage. He spoke about Tupac's inclusion as a character named Amaru, an integration made possible with the explicit permission and ongoing supervision of Tupac's estate, Amaru Entertainment. Snoop Dogg is also contributing to the game's theme song, collaborating with artists Satoshi Fujihara, Ado, and Tori Kelly, all of whom also portray characters in the game. RGG Studio emphasized their commitment to honoring Tupac's legacy, stating the character was developed with utmost respect and in close collaboration with the estate, utilizing archival footage and photographs, and explicitly confirmed that no AI was used in his character design.
Inclusion and Collaboration Details
The developers stressed that more specific details about Tupac's role as Amaru will be disclosed at a later stage. Stranger Than Heaven™ is set to be available across multiple platforms, including XBOX Game Pass, XBOX Series X|S, XBOX on PC, XBOX Cloud, Steam, and PlayStation 5. Pre-orders for both digital and physical editions are now open. The physical Collector's Edition, available in limited quantities for XBOX Series X|S and PlayStation 5, includes exclusive items such as a 12-inch vinyl record of the main theme, a SteelBook case, Deluxe Upgrade and Pre-Order Bonus DLC codes, and the base game, all housed in a premium art box. Information regarding additional details can be found on the official Stranger Than Heaven™ website and its social media channels.
The inclusion of a posthumous character, especially one as iconic as Tupac Shakur, marks a significant moment in video game development. It reflects a growing trend of integrating legendary figures into digital worlds, albeit with careful consideration for their legacy and familial rights. The collaboration with Amaru Entertainment highlights the importance of estate management and creative consent in modern media projects. This approach aims to ensure authenticity and respect for the artist's original work and image, differentiating it from AI-generated content. This careful curation allows fans to experience a new dimension of Tupac's artistic presence.
