iOS 27 Leaks Reveal New Siri App and 'Search or Ask' Feature
Leaked images suggest iOS 27 will introduce a dedicated Siri app and a dynamic 'Search or Ask' interface, promising more conversational AI interactions and deeper device integration.

New details have emerged regarding Apple's upcoming iOS 27 update, with leaked imagery showcasing a revamped Siri application and a new "Search or Ask" feature. The renders, based on information obtained by Bloomberg, depict an interactive Siri that mirrors the capabilities of contemporary chatbots like ChatGPT and Gemini.
The forthcoming Siri app is expected to support both text and voice interactions, allowing for fluid, back-and-forth conversations. A key aspect highlighted in the leaks is the inclusion of a messaging history that can be configured to disappear, offering a degree of privacy for user queries. This move signifies Apple's intent to significantly enhance its voice assistant, bringing it closer to the advanced AI models currently available from competitors.
Early previews suggest the Siri app will feature a dark interface and a prominent "Ask Siri" field for text-based prompts. Users will also have the option to switch to voice input via a microphone icon, and a paperclip icon will enable the attachment of files. The app will also display a history of past conversations, presented in either a list or a more visual bubble format, providing users with an easily accessible record of their interactions.
Enhanced Personalization and Contextual Awareness
Beyond the app interface, iOS 27 is slated to bring a more personalized and contextually aware version of Siri to users. Building on advancements demonstrated at WWDC 2024, the assistant is designed to better understand personal data from applications like Mail and Messages. This means Siri could, for instance, provide flight details for a user's mother or confirm lunch reservations by accessing information from various apps. The assistant will also be able to suggest available appointment slots by analyzing a user's calendar and can even draft emails, notes, or text messages using information from the device or the internet.
Integration with the Dynamic Island is also a notable aspect of the upcoming update. Users will reportedly be able to activate a new "Search or Ask" interface by swiping down from the top center of the iPhone screen. While traditional methods of invoking Siri, such as saying "Siri" or holding the power button, will remain, the new interface aims to streamline access to information.
The "Search or Ask" screen will feature an updated version of Siri Suggestions, displaying frequently used apps, recent web searches, weather forecasts, and shortcuts for common actions. From this unified view, users can initiate web searches powered by Apple's new AI systems. Search results are expected to appear as rich text cards within the Dynamic Island, with the option to expand into a full conversation within the Siri app for more detailed information.
The enhanced Siri, powered by Apple Intelligence, is anticipated to be available on iPhone 15 Pro models and newer devices, owing to compatibility requirements. A significant detail revealed is that Apple has partnered with Google, integrating its Gemini AI models to power certain aspects of Apple Intelligence, including the enhanced Siri. This collaboration follows Siri's existing ability to tap into ChatGPT since iOS 18.2. Furthermore, iOS 27 is expected to introduce an "Extensions" feature, allowing for the integration of additional third-party chatbots like Gemini and Claude.
Additional features in the pipeline include a dedicated Siri mode within the Camera app and new Apple Intelligence tools such as "Reframe" and "Extend" for the Photos app. Apple is scheduled to unveil these software updates, including iOS 27, at its WWDC 2026 keynote on Monday, June 8. Following a period of beta testing, the public release is anticipated in September 2026.
