Details surrounding Samsung's next-generation foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, have surfaced, offering a comprehensive look at their anticipated specifications. The leaks suggest a significant leap in foldable technology, focusing on enhanced displays, powerful internal components, and improved camera systems for the 2026 lineup.

The Galaxy Z Fold8 is poised to challenge premium large-screen smartphones with its dual-display setup. It is expected to feature a 7.6-inch main folding screen boasting a 2448x1848 resolution and a 4:3 aspect ratio. Complementing this is a 5.5-inch cover display with 1248x1972 resolution. Both panels are rumored to support a 120Hz refresh rate. A notable advancement is the use of a titanium display substrate, intended to make the characteristic crease of foldable screens virtually disappear. The device is slated to be powered by the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset, coupled with either 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB/512GB of storage, or an upgraded 16GB of RAM with 1TB of storage. Color options are expected to include Graphite, Cream, and Lavender, with a special Pistachio variant reserved for Samsung's online store. The camera array features a 50MP main sensor with an f/1.8 aperture and a 50MP ultrawide lens, alongside two 10MP f/2.2 selfie cameras. Powering the device is a 4,800 mAh battery, supporting 45W wired charging and wireless charging capabilities. Samsung is emphasizing durability, with the battery designed to retain at least 80% of its capacity after 1,200 charge cycles. The Fold8 will measure 4.5mm thick when unfolded and carry an IP48 certification for water and dust resistance, weighing approximately 201g.

Next-Generation Foldable Features

The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, positioned as the direct successor to last year's model, appears to offer more substantial upgrades, particularly in its camera and display resolutions. This model is expected to sport an internal folding screen with a sharper 2256x2504 resolution, an improvement over its predecessor. The cover display is set to be larger at 6.5 inches, with a 1080x2520 resolution. Like the standard Fold8, both screens will benefit from a 120Hz refresh rate, ensuring fluid visuals. The rear camera system on the Ultra is significantly enhanced, featuring a 200MP main camera with OIS and an f/1.7 aperture. This is complemented by a 10MP telephoto lens offering 3x optical zoom and an f/2.4 aperture, along with a new 50MP ultrawide camera. The selfie cameras remain at 10MP each. Under the hood, the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra shares the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset and the same RAM/storage configurations as the Fold8. However, it houses a larger 5,000 mAh battery, also supporting 45W wired charging and wireless charging. This battery is also built to withstand 1,200 charge cycles while maintaining 80% capacity. The Ultra variant will be thinner when unfolded at 4.1mm and weigh 218g. It is anticipated to come in Graphite, Cream, and Violet Shadow, with a Green Shadow color exclusive to online purchases.

The impending release of these advanced foldable devices signals Samsung's continued commitment to pushing the boundaries of mobile technology. With the inclusion of the latest Snapdragon chipset and significant camera improvements, particularly the 200MP sensor on the Ultra model, these phones aim to redefine user expectations for high-end smartphones. The focus on display durability and long-lasting battery health further underscores a maturation of the foldable category, moving beyond novelties to reliable daily drivers. Consumers can expect these devices to compete fiercely in the premium smartphone market, offering a compelling alternative for those seeking innovative form factors and cutting-edge performance.

Pricing for the Galaxy Z Fold8 is rumored to start at €1,999, with the Fold8 Ultra expected to begin at €2,199. These specifications, if accurate, position both models as top-tier devices in the rapidly evolving foldable phone segment, promising a sophisticated user experience for 2026.
