Samsung has officially announced a new display technology set to debut in its next-generation foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. Dubbed "Flex Titanium," this innovation promises a more durable and visually seamless foldable experience by tackling the persistent issue of screen creasing.

The core of the Flex Titanium technology lies in a new sandwich architecture for the display. A titanium-alloy film, significantly thinner than a human hair, is integrated beneath the OLED panel. Samsung claims this film offers 20 times greater mechanical stiffness compared to traditional plastic films, contributing to a slimmer overall display profile. This is complemented by a titanium plate positioned beneath the display module. This plate provides enhanced structural support when the device is unfolded and folded, effectively minimizing air gaps and increasing stability.

According to Samsung's announcement, the new display not only improves the device's resistance to visible creases but also enhances the viewing experience. "Flex Titanium is supposed to offer a better viewing experience, according to Samsung," the company stated in its release, also highlighting "better durability and reduced crease visibility." This structural reinforcement is designed to withstand the repeated stress of folding and unfolding.

For context, the previous Galaxy Z Fold 7 model was rated for 500,000 folds, utilizing plastic components. The new titanium-alloy film, measuring less than 30% the thickness of a human hair, is touted for its stiffness. This increased rigidity, combined with the supporting titanium plate, suggests a potential for greater longevity, though official figures are pending.

Early indications from leaked videos suggest the crease on the purported Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is nearly invisible, even after multiple folding actions. This visual improvement aligns with Samsung's claims about the new display technology.
