Apple Axes iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max Following iPhone 18 Launch
Apple has officially discontinued the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, removing them from its online store with the debut of the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. The models, launched in September 2025, are no longer available for purchase.

Apple has officially pulled the plug on the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, discontinuing both high-end models immediately following the announcement of their successors, the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Consumers looking to purchase the 2025 iPhone Pro devices will no longer find them on Apple's official online store.
The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max were first introduced in September 2025 during Apple's "Awe dropping" special event. These devices featured the powerful A19 Pro chip and a sophisticated triple-camera system on the rear, with each lens boasting 48 megapixels. Among these was a 48-megapixel telephoto camera capable of 4x optical zoom and an 8x optical-quality zoom. The front camera included an 18-megapixel sensor for Center Stage capabilities. A significant design change from the previous iPhone 16 Pro models involved replacing the titanium frame with an aluminum unibody construction. This new design also integrated an Apple-designed vapor chamber to enhance thermal performance, while maintaining the established 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch display sizes respectively.
Upon their release, the iPhone 17 Pro carried a starting price of $1,099 in the United States, with the larger iPhone 17 Pro Max beginning at $1,199. Now, with the discontinuation of these models, Apple's current offerings are centered on the newly launched iPhone 18 Pro series. The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199, and the iPhone 18 Pro Max is priced from $1,299. Notably, the 2026 iPhone 18 Pro models introduce a 2TB storage option for the first time on the smaller variant.
New Foldable iPhone and Price Adjustments
In addition to updating its Pro line, Apple also unveiled the iPhone Duo, marking its entry into the foldable smartphone market. The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 for the 256GB configuration, with storage options extending up to 2TB, mirroring the Pro models. This launch signifies a major strategic move for Apple, aiming to compete in a segment that has seen increasing interest from consumers and other manufacturers.
The company also made adjustments to the pricing of other devices within its lineup. Prices for the iPhone 16, iPhone 17, iPhone Air, and iPhone 17e have been increased on Apple's online store. These price hikes, alongside the introduction of new flagship models and a foldable iPhone, suggest a strategic repositioning of Apple's product portfolio for the remainder of 2026 and beyond. The discontinuation of older Pro models is a standard practice for Apple, allowing the company to streamline its offerings and focus marketing efforts on the latest innovations.
The tech giant's consistent product cycle ensures that consumers have access to the most advanced technology, though it also means that previous generations quickly become unavailable through official channels. This strategy helps maintain the perceived value of new releases and encourages upgrades. For enthusiasts and those seeking the latest in mobile technology, the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max represent the pinnacle of Apple's current smartphone engineering, while the new Apple foldable adds an entirely new dimension to their device ecosystem.
